Why Am I Alive?
Many live to amass wealth, gain fame or popularity or leave their mark in some other way. In a world of billions of people, everyone rushing and shoving, wanting to make a difference or leaving one’s mark can almost feel hopeless. Western society places such emphasis on the outward – how we look, what we wear, where we live etc. No wonder people fixate on the opinions of others. Are they talking about me? Do I look good enough? Ignoring the truth of God’s Word that assures us that we are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14
Yet God doesn’t see us as a mass of humanity nor does He care what our net worth is. In fact, the value He places on you and I have absolutely nothing to do with our looks, anything we can do, nor anything we cannot do. The Bible says ‘while we were yet sinners, Christ died for the us’ Romans 5:8. So, guess what? No need to perform or impress God. Like me, are you imperfect? God already gave you His best gift, no cost to you. Romans 6:23 The Lord wants a relationship with us based on faith and all He asks of you is ‘only believe’. Believe that He is, and believe His Word. Acts 16:31; Hebrews 13:6
As we enter a New Year, you may be soul searching, looking for meaning and purpose. Why am I here? What next? How do I make my life count? One word encapsulates the answer for me, for you and all mankind – ‘Obedience’
Love for God compels us to obey Him. 2 Corinthians 5:14 Obedience requires that we offer up the one life we have, back in worship to the Creator and treat others the way we want to be treated. Obedience demands that we use our God-given talents to help humanity. Obedience reminds us that life is short, use your time well, choose to be happy and be the best authentic you that you can be. And although it is not by works of righteousness, ('by grace you are saved'), yet obedience makes a choice not to sin, for God is not mocked. Ephesians 2:8-9,Galatians 6:7; But it all starts with the step of obedience in choosing to have faith and believe that God is Love and He so loved you that He gave His only Son, that if you believe in Him, you will live eternally. He promises to never leave you and His plan for you is a good one that won’t harm you. John 3:16, Hebrews 13:5, Jeremiah 29:11
Why are you alive? Why am I alive? Because a loving God is not finished with you. Pray for a heart of simple obedience and each day will unfold per His original plan for you from before you were born. Jeremiah 1:5 Hope you have a Christ-centered Holiday season and a fulfilling New Year. Expect great things. Shalom!
